Tour Chinatown with Christopher Cheung | CanU 2020 Vancouver Tours

Stroll through Vancouver’s historic Chinatown with Tyee reporter Christopher Cheung. It’s easy to get lost in the neighbourhood’s aesthetic trappings, from old architecture to obvious Chineseness, like red dragon lanterns. See why Cheung looks beyond that and calls Chinatown a NORC, a naturally-occurring retirement community that seniors have chosen to live the remainder of their lives.

Each year, the Council for Canadian Urbanism (CanU) offers a number of tours to give conference attendees in the host city an on-the-ground experience of the evolving urban environment. This year, due to the pandemic, the tours are presented as videos.
