Horne Lake Caves | FREE Self Guided Tour on Vancouver Island

Vancouver Island is home to over 1500 caves, but only a very small handful of those are publicized. Horne Lake Caves Provincial Park offers free self guided cave tours through some very interesting caves. They also have a wide range of interesting guided options ranging from $30-$200 per person. There’s great lakeside camping nearby and it is a wonderful adventure for the whole family.

➤ ABOUT THIS WEEK’S EPISODE:
The Horne Lake Caves at Horne Lake Caves Provincial Park on Vancouver Island is one of Canada’s most impressive natural wonders.

We took a ferry over to Vancouver Island and first did the 2hr introductory rock rappelling clinic since we’ve never done anything like this before! Then the following day, we did a 5hr extreme cave rappel tour, the only tour that gets you to the very end of this cave. We crawled through The Siphon and beyond to a series of rock climbs, ladders and rappels.

We descended a 7 story “Rainbarrel” waterfall on rope, marveled at the incredible “China Shop” room, completely surrounded by beautiful crystal formations, and then did everything in reverse (rock climbing up the Rainbarrel waterfall, up the ladders and through 3 narrow crawl passages).

Even though at times we were freaking out at stepping off cliffs, crawling through tight spaces in the pitch black dark, questioning why the heck we did this in the first place… our Horne Lakes Cave experience was one of the most memorable adventure tours we’ve ever embarked upon. Listen to us describe this experience here:

Stay tuned and subscribe to this channel because we will have another Horne Lake Caves video come out soon, showcasing some incredible GoPro footage from the 5hr extreme cave rappel tour – we saved it for a Dream Driven episode 🙂
