Revelstoke, British Columbia, Canada, in the Canadian Rockies, is located on the Canadian Pacific Railway (CP), where their Shuswap Sub meets their Mountain Sub. The Shuswap Sub runs to the west to Kamloops, BC (towards Vancouver, BC), and the Mountain Sub runs to the east to Field, BC, through Rogers Pass.
The CP traverses the Canadian Rockies over 2 passes. Rogers Pass, which is to the immediate east of Revelstoke, and further east, Kicking Horse Pass, which is to the immediate east of Field. Rogers Pass is at 4,360 feet (1,330 meters), and Kicking Horse Pass is at 5,339 feet (1,627 meters). To the west of Revelstoke is the lower Eagle Pass, at 1,804 feet (550 meters).
Among the freight trains seen here are unit potash, unit grain, and unit coal. Loaded westbounds feature both mid-train and end-of-train DPU’s, and empty eastbounds have fewer engines, both on front and as DPU’s. Many but not all eastbounds will stop to enter the yard, which is located to the east of the museum and cameras. Also seen are manifests, intermodal, and combined intermodal/manifest..
On occasion, the gates will activate, but will soon after deactivate, with no train, which is due to the switcher in the yard proceeding far forward enough to enter the crossing’s track circuit.
There are no VIA Rail passenger trains through Revelstoke, however, during part of the year the Rocky Mountaineer can be seen.
There are 2 ATCS layouts, one for each sub, but there is no server coverage. No radio feeds are available.
There’s no schedule for freight trains, but some of our more knowledgeable members will provide real-time information when it’s available. Please refrain from asking.

The Amtrak Cascades passenger train traveling between Vancouver British Columbia and Seattle Washington passes through some of the most beautiful coastal scenery anywhere on the west coast of North America.
Southbound, just as the Amtrak Cascades train leaves the Bellingham Train station, passengers embark on a scenic journey along the Chuckanut Coast as their train winds along the water’s edge with views of the San Juan Islands and mountains beyond.
At one time Chuckanut drive was considered the most scenic road in Washington however with mature trees now blocking most of the views of Puget Sound and San Juan Islands, it makes a journey on the Amtrak Cascades even more special.

A luxury train may not be everyone's idea of the perfect way to compliment a South African safari, but for those who know for that romantic and by-gone elegance, a luxury train journey could offer the ultimate in resplendent and regal travel. South Africa's most famous rail journeys are aboard the iconic blue train and along the rovos rail network which transport guests across a wide range of country and offering multiple itineraries.

Sightseeing and shopping in Bangkok is easy. Especially if you use one of the best mass transit system in Bangkok called the BTS (Bangkok Transit System) Sky Train. It's cheap, efficient and can get you quickly to most parts of interest in central Bangkok. But most importantly the Sky Trains are air-conditioned, which will be much appreciated during an often hot and hazy day in Bangkok.
The Sky Trains run from 6am to 12am daily. Although the official closing time is 12am the stations usually will not allow passengers into the stations starting around 11:30 pm. So make sure you plan accordingly. Riding the trains is very simple since signs, maps and station stops are annotated in English between Thai. And all the station booth attendants are able to communicate in English too.
The Sky Train has only 2 lines and run on elevated train tracks above Bangkok's often congested roads:
Both BTS train lines are also able to get visitors to the city's popular nightlife districts as well:
There are different types of fares that can be purchased, such as single journey to multi-pass. If you know you will be using the BTS trains a lot to get around it is best to buy a mult-pass fare. Multi-pass fares are stored with the amount you've deposited and deducted like a debit card. This way you will avoid ticket lines during the often hectic rush hours in some of the most well used stations.
Finally if you really want to make the best of your vacation in Bangkok it is best to stay in a hotel near a BTS station. There are many hotels that are cheap and affordable to expensive luxury hotels near them.
Taking the Sky Train is simply the best way to get around Bangkok. The city has a reputation for one of the worst traffic jams in Southeast Asia. Once you're on a Sky Train moving past vehicle traffic below then you will know why this popular mode of transport is so aptly names.
