VanScience Social – A Day Of Science Tours in Vancouver



Mike from TopDaddies.com joins the Science World team for the VanScience Social on a tour of some of the most amazing science hubs in Vancouver to explore, learn and do some hands-on science experiments with local experts.

The day started with a wander around Science World galleries and some science storytelling, courtesy of Anecdotal Evidence. We then hopped on a trolley to TRIUMF to tour Canada’s biggest particle accelerator. After a thorough discussion about the origin of the universe, we reversed perspectives to look at the particles in our human bodies by participating in a DNA extraction experiment at UBC’s Michael Smith Labs. Finally, we finished off our night with a guided astronomy experience at the HR Macmillan Space Centre and even got to see the moon up close at the observatory’s telescope.

Ariana Grande – Fake Smile (Sweetener World Tour, Vancouver)

This song was an absolute nightmare to try and get to a decent enough level that I felt worth releasing. The lighting was extremely harsh throughout most of the concert, which is pretty much impossible for me to do too much about, and ultimately some of the stuff came out darker than I would have liked, mostly because I was trying to keep the quality as high as possible. There is always a trade-off between quality and how bright a dark scene will appear since on a fixed aperture, you have to either alter the shutter speed or the ISO. The real problem was the audio however, as the audio sounded decent in the original recording, but after I edited the video and re-encoded, for some reason I was getting pops and clicks in the audio. After a whole bunch of trial and error, I eventually had to try and cut and use the original audio with the new video, which took some time, but it should be good now at least.

Vancouver's Dark Side – lost souls on East Hastings & entering Chinatown (4k walking tour)



My walk around East Hastings street Vancouver 4k video, where we see the dark side of Vancouver- the side that the city doesn’t want to promote to the tourists. Although it’s only a couple blocks away from Gastown (big tourist attraction) It’s an area of Vancouver that is infamous for it’s homeless situation and also for the serious drug problems. Vancouver has had an issue in this area for the longest time. Safe injection sites have been open in the general East Hastings area of Vancouver so people do have the ability to be in the presence of medical professionals if they so choose.

In this video, we walk a stretch of East Hastings from Abbot street, but we also enter into the Chinatown area and walk through there as well. It’s eerily quiet as most businesses were closed, and at some times it felt like walking in a ghost town.
